The Ministry of Higher Education in Cameroon has recently put forward an ambitious initiative to integrate military training into the academic curriculum of selected higher education institutions. This proposal, communicated by the Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, Chancellor of Academic Orders, Professor Jacques Frame Ndongo on December 7, 2022, seeks to promote civic responsibility and leadership among students by equipping them with essential military skills.
The proposed military training program consists of a structured 45-day course designed for students in prestigious institutions like Teacher Training Colleges, National Polytechnic Schools, and Faculties of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. The program is divided into two distinct components: 15 days of physical training followed by 30 days of military and strategic training. This dual approach aims to ensure that students not only enhance their physical fitness but also gain critical tactical and crisis management skills.One of the core objectives of this initiative is to foster a sense of civic responsibility among students.
By engaging in military training, participants will develop a deeper understanding of their roles as future leaders in society. The program emphasizes the synergy between academic excellence and military expertise, preparing students to navigate complex environments where both civilian and military knowledge are essential.If approved, this military training program could transform the educational landscape in Cameroon, creating a new generation of leaders equipped to handle both civilian and military challenges.
