The president of the North West Regional Executive Council, Prof. Fru Fobuzshi Angwafo III, has called on citizens to make national unity the foundation of security and development. He was speaking in a message marking the 54th edition of the National Day on May 20.

Focusing his message on the theme “National Unity, Backbone of our Defense System, Bedrock of Cameroon’s Development,” Prof. Angwafo III said a united people form the first line of defense for any nation and create the conditions for peace, stability and progress.

Acknowledging the challenges facing the North West Region, he said residents have shown “unwavering resolve to peace building, recovery and resilience” through courage, dialogue and collective effort. The Regional Assembly, he added, is guided by the values of Peace, Justice, Unity, Hard work and Solidarity in its work to transform communities.

Prof. Fru Angwafo III also stressed that peace is indispensable for security and development, while justice strengthens trust and social harmony. He described unity as the region’s greatest strength, hardwork as the engine of growth, and solidarity as essential for standing together in times of challenge and opportunity.

He paid tribute to traditional rulers, administrative authorities, security and defense forces, development partners, civil society, and women and youth groups for their contributions to peace and development in the region. He also emphasized that national defense depends not only on security forces but also on citizens who promote peaceful coexistence, reject division and support dialogue.

The president urged people of the North West to back initiatives that advance peace, social cohesion and regional development, particularly in education, agriculture, entrepreneurship, infrastructure, youth empowerment and community-driven projects. Addressing youth directly, he said their creativity and patriotism are key to building a stronger North West and a more prosperous Cameroon.

Prof. Fru Angwafo III closed his message by calling for a renewed commitment to national unity and to the values of Peace, Justice, Unity, Hard work and Solidarity as the region works toward its vision for the future.
