PCC MOURNS MODERATOR EMERITUS REV. DR. FESTUS AMBE ASANA, WHO DIED JUNE 22 IN USA

The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, PCC, is in mourning after confirming the death of its former Moderator, The Very Rev. Dr. Festus Ambe Asana.

The Church announced his “transition to glory” on Monday, June 22, 2026, in Orlando, United States, where he had been residing. Dr. Asana served as the 5th Moderator of the PCC from February 2010 to 2014, succeeding two-term Moderator Rev. Dr. Nyansako-ni-Nku before handing over to Rt. Rev. Dr. Fonki Samuel Forba.

He was remembered by the church for “distinct humility, exceptional theological insight, and unwavering devotion.” Known for his strict adherence to PCC policy and church constitution, he remained an influential voice within the denomination long after his tenure.

Prior to the 2024 election of the current Moderator, he stepped in to advise outgoing Moderator Rt. Rev. Fonki Samuel on upholding the church’s constitutional provisions. During his leadership from 2009 to 2014, Dr. Asana was credited with major contributions to the spiritual growth, structural advancement, and peace of the Church.

His legacy, the PCC said, remains “an indelible” part of its history.“In this moment of profound grief and shock,” current Moderator Rt. Rev. Miki Hans Abia stated on behalf of the Synod Clerk, clergy, and Christian community, extending condolences to the bereaved widow, children, and entire family.

The church prayed that “the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, anchors and sustains them through this dark valley of sorrow.”All Christians and well-wishers have been urged to remain united in prayer for the family and for the church.

The official funeral program will be communicated once finalized with the family.“May his gentle soul rest in the eternal peace of the Lord,”
