Cameroon and Chad have reaffirmed their defence and security partnership during a meeting in Yaoundé on May 21, 2026, a day after Chad’s National and Nomadic Guard took part in Cameroon’s 54th National Unity Day celebrations.
Cameroon’s Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Beti Assomo Joseph, received Chad’s Minister of the Armed Forces, Ex-Servicemen and War Victims, Issaka Malloua Djamous, at his cabinet’s conference hall. The closed-door session brought together senior officials from both sides to review military and diplomatic cooperation.
During the meeting, Minister Beti Assomo Joseph highlighted the strategic nature of ties between the two neighbors, noting their shared 1,100-kilometre border exposes them to common security challenges, including terrorism linked to Boko Haram.
The ministers discussed cross-border insecurity, transhumance, illicit trafficking, arms circulation, and the need for stronger intelligence-sharing and joint military coordination. He further reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to preserving peace in the sub-region through collective action and sustained defence cooperation.
The Chad’s Minister of Armed Forces praised the relationship between the two heads of state and thanked Cameroon for inviting the Chadian contingent to participate in the Unity Day parade. He described the invitation as a symbol of fraternity, solidarity, and regional integration between the two countries.
