ELECAM Launches 10-Day Online Voter Registration Awareness Campaign Ahead of Electoral Register Revision

Elections Cameroon (ELECAM) has launched a 10-day online campaign to educate and encourage citizens to register and take part in the annual revision of electoral registers.The campaign was officially launched on April 22, 2026, in Yaoundé by the Director General of Elections, Dr. Erik Essousse

Speaking during a press briefing, Dr. Essousse said the initiative is aimed at sharing clear, accurate, and verifiable information with the public. He explained that citizens can access the services from home, without having to travel. ELECAM noted that the digital drive forms part of a wider voter education effort. It uses multiple online platforms to make electoral processes more convenient and accessible. Citizens can visit the official ELECAM website at www.elecam.cm, and also follow the body’s verified pages on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) to carry out key electoral activities.

According to ELECAM, the platforms allow citizens to perform important tasks such as registering as voters, requesting changes to their polling stations, and checking their voter registration status online by providing the required personal information. To further protect voters from misleading content, ELECAM has also introduced a fact-checking feature on its Facebook page to help counter electoral misinformation.

Dr. Essousse said the campaign is also meant to strengthen transparency and participation in the electoral process as the nationwide revision exercise continues. In particular, the initiative will focus on educating citizens about the requirements for voter registration, guiding voters on how to update polling-station details and verify registration information, and informing the public about procedures for removing names of people who have lost voting rights.

Finally, ELECAM believes the campaign will help increase voter awareness, build confidence in the electoral process, and promote broader civic participation especially through digital tools that make information easier to reach and easier to verify.
