On May 4, 2026, President Paul Biya signed a decree creating the Société Camerounaise d’Électricité (Socadel), a move described as a decisive step in the reorganization of Cameroon’s national power sector. The decision is part of a broader effort to restart and restructure the activities of the electricity industry particularly those that were previously handled by ENEO.
More than just a rebranding, the creation of Socadel reflects the government’s intention to strengthen energy sovereignty while building a public electricity service that is better performing, more transparent, and more accessible to the public.
Socadel is a public-capital company tasked with playing a central role in the integrated management of Cameroon’s electricity sector. Its scope covers the entire value chain, including electricity generation, transmission, distribution, and commercial activities.The company’s social capital is set at 43.9 billion FCFA. Operationally, Socadel’s governance structure is organized around clearly defined decision-making bodies, namely the General Assembly, the Board of Directors, and the Executive Management (General Management).
