Cameroon to Hold Official Funeral for Former National Assembly President Cavayé Yéguié Djibril on May 23

Cameroon will hold an official funeral for former National Assembly President, Cavayé Yéguié Djibril on May 23, 2026, in Mora, Mayo-Sava Division of the Far North region.

The announcement was made on May 13 by Samuel Mvondo Ayolo, Minister Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of the Republic.

Cavayé Yéguié Djibril died on May 6, 2026, at the age of 86. He was buried the same day in Mada, his hometown, in accordance with Muslim tradition. The upcoming ceremony will allow the state to pay a solemn national tribute.

As a major figure in Cameroonian political life, Cavayé Yéguié Djibril led the National Assembly for 34 years. His long tenure at the head of the lower house of paliament left a lasting mark on the country’s institutional history.
