A new modern community toilet has been opened for use in Membea-Bokwoango, a neighborhood of Buea, South West region, giving residents and visitors a much-needed public facility at the village square commonly called “Pala Pala Field.”
The clean, well-constructed toilet is intended to serve people who come into the square for daily activities, ceremonies and other gatherings, reducing the need to travel to private compounds and helping keep the public space sanitary.
Chief Njie Mbonde Albert officially inaugurated the facility on March 19, 2026 during a ceremony held to mark the first anniversary of his designation as the traditional ruler of the third-class chiefdom on March 19, 2025. The opening formed part of the anniversary events and provided an opportunity for community members to celebrate a tangible improvement delivered under his leadership.
Attendees praised the chief for prioritizing practical, visible projects that affect everyday life.The new toilet adds to a string of community improvements that Bokwoango has seen over the past year. Local efforts and partnerships have produced better water supply, which has eased household chores and improved hygiene. More stable electricity has helped businesses and households, while scholarships have created opportunities for young people who otherwise might not be able to continue their schooling.
As Chief Njie Mbonde’s first year in office comes to a close, the visible progress in infrastructure and social services provides a promising start to his tenure.
