Littoral Governor Bans Use of Laughing Gas in Bars and Nightclubs

The Governor of the Littoral Region, Samuel Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, has banned the sale and recreational use of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, across the region.

In a communique dated May 25, 2026, Governor Ivaha Diboua said the practice has been rising and poses serious health risks, especially to young people. He stated that marketing and consumption of the highly psychoactive and hallucinogenic substance for entertainment are strictly prohibited in nightclubs, snack bars, and other recreational spaces in the Littoral.

The governor warned that the measure is non-negotiable. According to him, violators will face the full force of the law, and non-compliant establishments risk immediate closure. He called on the public to act responsibly and with civic sense.
