The Delegate General for National Security Martin Mbarga Nguele has issued a circular aimed at tightening the rules regarding police uniforms and the use of social media within the national police force. This decision comes in response to observed behaviors that have raised concerns over professionalism and adherence to ethical standards.
In his circular, Mbarga Nguele noted that some police officers have been flaunting non-regulatory uniforms. These violations include wearing unauthorized decorations and insignia, adopting extravagant hairstyles, donning non-compliant footwear, and displaying visible piercings and anklets. Such actions, according to the DGSN, reflect a disregard for the established ethical protocols and tarnish the image of the National Security Corps.
The circular also addresses the rising trend of police officers irresponsibly using social media to showcase themselves in official uniforms. Many have made questionable posts about sensitive national issues, which not only breaches the standards of conduct but also poses a risk to the integrity and neutrality expected from police personnel. Mbarga Nguele emphasized that these behaviors are detrimental to the reputation of the National Security Corps and undermine the political neutrality and duty of reserve expected of police officers.
In light of these troubling developments, the DGSN has issued a stern warning to all police personnel. He reminded them of their obligations under the Code of Ethics, stating that they must wear the official service uniform along with the appropriate rank insignia and identification badge. The circular reiterates that only approved work attire is permissible, and it mandates appropriate levels of decorum in dress. As such, piercings, anklets, unauthorized insignia, and extravagant hairstyles are prohibited when wearing service uniforms.
