The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeal Board has made a shocking decision, stripping Senegal of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title and awarding it to Morocco.
This ruling comes after Senegal’s dramatic walkout in the final match, protesting a late penalty awarded to Morocco.The controversy began when Morocco was awarded a penalty in the dying minutes of the match, which Senegal’s players, led by coach Pape Thiaw, refused to accept. They walked off the pitch for about 15 minutes, causing a significant delay. After returning, Senegal went on to win the match 1-0 in extra time, thanks to Pape Gueye’s goal.
However, CAF’s Appeal Board ruled that Senegal’s actions constituted a forfeiture of the match, citing Articles 82 and 84 of the AFCON regulations. As a result, Morocco is declared the winner with a 3-0 scoreline.The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has condemned the decision, calling it “unfair, unprecedented, and unacceptable,” and plans to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports.
