Military preparations are intensifying in Buea as the country gears up for the 54th National Day on May 20.
Law enforcement officials are conducting daily rehearsals in the Southwest regional capital, drilling for the grand parade. The drills focus on marching formations, coordination, and timing to ensure a sharp, synchronized display on the day.
With the theme “National unity: backbone of our defence system, bedrock of Cameroon’s development,” this year’s ceremony places the military at the center of the celebrations.
On the parade grounds, security officers are running through marching sequences daily, focusing on timing, formation, and synchronization. Squads move in step to drum commands, adjusting spacing and alignment as officers oversee each pass. The practice includes stationary drills for posture and salute, as well as full-route marches to mirror the conditions of the May 20 parade.
The coordinated drills bring different units together, with infantry, security forces, and support contingents practicing as a single formation. The emphasis of the rehearsal is focused on precision and unity of movement, ensuring the marching display reflects the theme’s focus on collective effort and cohesion.
